Milo’s Wake by Margery Forde and Michael Forde

Director - Melinda Park

A wake will be the perfect opportunity for Milo’s loved ones to remember him fondly, sing his praises and enjoy a pint or five of Guinness. Not wanting to miss a good party, Milo O’Connor decides to have his wake while he is alive and well. And so, in an Australian Irish pub Milo gathers his family, friends and a few uninvited guests, for an evening of food, drink and rousing tribute. Brimming with the irrepressible spirit of the Irish, the wake promises a riotous night of emotion, song and laughter.

Director, Melinda Park, together with cast members Gillian Simpson, Craig Taylor, Brendan Jeffery and Sarah Pavitt and musicians and bar staff Brendan Williams, Neil McKenzie, Relle Scott and Anne England are hard at work to ensure audiences enjoy performances “brimming with the irrepressible spirit of the Irish”.

Melinda is being assisted by RobynFlashman with Sandi Fenton and Jay Barrett in charge of props and the backstage area. Once again Phil Holmes and Robbie Campbell are providing their expertise on the technical side.

Milo’s Wake is set in an Irish pub in Brisbane and written by Brisbaneites Margery Forde and Michael Ford. The play enjoyed a long and highly acclaimed season at La Boite in 2000 and won several theatre awards for the writers.

Audiences will be presented with a great mix of haunting  and boisterous Irish songs and a story which is like a Guinness – light and frothy at the top but underneath is the dark.
